Mahalo for your interest in paddling with the Wahines!
We are recreational paddlers who are interested in connecting to our beautiful bay
and our community of paddlers.
First step: email us and tell us your story. Are you new to the sport and want to check it out? Are you an experienced paddler or have you been out with us before?
New paddlers do not need any outrigger experience. However, you must be able to: swim, sustain paddling for an hour to an hour and a half (with a few breaks), get into the canoe from the water in the event of a huli (the canoe flipping), and be 18 years old or older. Paddlers must also be comfortable being out on the open water. We provide paddles and personal flotation devices. See the Outriggers page for more information.
We paddle on Saturday and Sunday mornings from Ohana Beach next to Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco. We meet at 9:00am and are typically back on the beach by 11:00am to pack up, which takes 20 to 30 minutes.
You must request a seat on a boat and receive a confirmation email to paddle.
This is our process to request a seat:
*An email is automatically sent on Sundays that calls for paddlers for the following weekend.
*Reply to that email with your request to paddle (e.g., I can paddle on Saturday. OR I can paddle on Saturday or Sunday.) by Wednesday at 6:00pm.
*A Paddle Confirmation email is sent on Thursday evening to the paddlers who are confirmed for the weekend. If you do not get this email, you did not make it on a boat or we did not have enough paddlers to schedule a boat.
If you are put on a boat and are unable to make it, text the point person listed on the paddle confirmation email for your assigned day and wait for a response. DO NOT email – the email account is not checked after the confirmation email is sent.
You must complete our waiver here before paddling with us.
Hope to see you out on the bay soon!
